eduLab

Lots of children dream about a school full of computers, new gadgets and rocket-science stuff. Well, we are creating one in Poznań =) . EduLab is a HUDGE installation project. We are preparing whole floor (over 300 sq. meters) for educational purposes. Kids are about to participate in multiple scenarios connected with mathematics, physics, geography  and chemistry. We’ve created educational apps and games using latest virtual reality technologies: Occulus Rift, HoloLens, Razer OSVR and our so called Cave made up with five 4k walls, 8 tracking cameras and 10 projectors.

I’m responsible for creating a scenario with underwater bathyscaphe in Unity3d environment. Kids will be divided in groups of three. Their objective will be to dive through an underwater cave and find a hidden treasure. One of them – the pilot, will steer the ship using VR headset and an xBox controller. Second – the navigator, will help to navigate through the cave with a tablet. Last one – the operator, with the second tablet will have to remove obstacles using special equipment attached to the ship. The VR headset is really unbelievable and brings user experience to a new level. Kids now will have the opportunity to feel how exactly is to be in an underwater machine!

We are still waiting for Omni running platform. Can’t wait till I get my hands on it! =)

Here is the project website:

Out of the Box

Out of the Box is a 3d puzzle game that will bring your spatial imagination to the limit. Main character Mozzy – a laboratory mouse, found that a tasty chunk of cheese is locked in a big glass box. With her telecinetic abilities you will need to help her get the cheese. But be worry! Many traps and obstacles will complicate your task.

It is truly one of the most challenging project I ever been into. Out of the Box has its own gravity system so that the animations of the obstacles and cheese could be done at the right moment. As the main box flips, each “moving” element needs it position to be recalculated in game logic. Then an apropriate animation could be played. There are about 10 types of obstacles, each with a totally different behaviour, look and special effects. The game core engine was written by me and Piotr Jaworski in about 2,5 weeks. It had level editor, XML level saving and loading, basic game play and some simple 3d graphics with three obstacles. After that we started working on giving some life to the application by adding animations to obstacles and main cube. Step by step we also added more complicated obstacles like teleport and toxic gass. Later, as the graphics were ready the game started to has its own style. The main character became Mozzy and the game arena became more cartoonized. As the time passed our team grew larger: we finished with 4 programmers and 1 graphic. In Out of the Box we also implemented features like: interactive tutorial, achievement system, monetarization system & shop, facebook sharing, many particle and shader effects and many, many more cool details :)

What I personally like about the game implementation is its scalability. With the game editor its possible to create game arena of different sizes and shapes. It is also easy to add extra obstacles to the code due to its architecture. When updating the game its new levels are automaticly distributed to players  in small (10KB) XML files.

Right now the game is released on IOS in Canada, Mexico and Australia for beta testing. See facebook for details:

Pirates

Your aim is to build a pirate fleet and to collect the coins it delivers. The player who builds the strongest fleet and collects most coins, wins the game! Every turn players participate in bidding, which helps them to expand their fleet. Afterwards the fleet is going on a raid for gold. If the player’s fleet is big enough, he/she can acquire a ringleader, which helps his fleet to gain coins from other players. Game offers a lot of special cards, which support player’s efforts. For example, you can summon the mighty Kraken to sink the other player’s ship. Pirates tired after the raid for gold will find rest in the barge, where it’s owner will accommodate them for the proper fee. Pirates live the life full of dangers, but becoming the terror and the legend of the seas is their ultimate goal!

Well what can I say? That’s my favourite game I’ve been working on. I love the graphics and gameplay. From the beginning I participated in the design stage. As you play the board game you need a really big table. It was really hard to fit everything to tablet dimensions. From the development site I moved the rules from the board game to the computer and also implemented most of the card behaviour and animation. As you can see the main menu is made of chains (hinge joints) and wooden planks. I think they look awesome and I’m really proud of them =)

Monster Shake

Hidden from the human eye, monsters you never knew inhabited planet Earth have now left their comfortable shelters! This is a special time in our history – it only happens once every 10 000 years. It’s the only worldwide tournament crowning the strongest, quickest, smartest and most agile monster of all!
This is… Monster Shake!

The first prototype was developed in three days (graphics a little bit longer), just before Gamescom 2013 in Köln. It was a pleasure seeing people playing  game that you have been working on. After Gamescom we decided to make a fully playable game with a storyline and a tournament. Despite the coding stuff, I worked on polishing the game by adding most of the particle effects. See the result yourself in the video below.

Ohhh! Did I forgot to mension that President of Poland was playing this game?

Dice+ Project

DICE+ gives you a new way to enjoy games using dice on your iPad or tablet. Connect DICE+ via Bluetooth and start enjoying your games with real dice. No more counting, moving game pieces or pressing boring random number generators.

DICE+ has really cool features like accelerometer, magnetometer, distance sensor and even termometer build in arm microcontroller. This gave many opportunities to brought gameplay to the next level: steering a train in Bella & Max, fight monsters in Monster Shake or play real dice game in Pirates. I really enjoyed developing games with DICE+ controller and be part of the team which created it.

Bella & Max

Bella and Max is an educational game aimed at kids aged 3+. The game gives your child the chance to experience a curious adventure with the game’s characters, Bella (cat) and Max (dog).

During the game you’ll solve numerous problems during their adventures. They include feeding pets, riding trains etc.

The project looks simple, but in fact it was quite complicated. It is consisted of six minigames which could be released as seperate games. The story is cute and children love it. My role in this project as a team leader gave me new opportunities to prove myself and gave planty of satisfaction.

ILikeBasket

This game is about thowing as many balls to the basket. The more you are accurate the bigger the bonus gets. Your goal is to score as many points you can get in limited time.

That is my first commercial project. I made a coupple of updates to version 1.0 and wrote three new mods to version 2.0: arcade with special powers, HORSE and challenge. New version is currently not available, don’t know why, I no longer work there.
